Course Content

Level 2 Study Programme Overview

The Level 2 study programme will provide you with a varied knowledge and understanding of the information technology sector, as well as developing your computing skills and preparing you for a future career in the IT industry. You will study a wide range of topics, including installing and maintaining computer systems, technology systems and website development, together with some aspects of the creative industries, such as multimedia products development.

Level 3 Study Programme Overview

A Level 3 study programme is equivalent to three A-Levels and will provide you with the knowledge and experience required to start building a career in a range of IT jobs including programmer, web designer, technical support, or networking technician. You will study a range of key topics, including computer systems, software development, website production, computer networks, digital graphics and more.

Level 3 Apprenticeship Overview

Infrastructure Technician Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3
This apprenticeship combines classroom training with online activities, one-on-one support and experience at work to develop your IT trouble shooting skills. You’ll achieve recognised industry qualifications on networking and hardware, mobile and operating systems, cloud services, business processes and programming.

Level 4 Apprenticeship Overview

Cyber Security Technologist (Risk Analyst) Higher Apprenticeship Level 4
The Cyber Security Technologist Level 4 apprenticeship combines classroom training with online activities, one-on-one support and experience in the workplace to give you the knowledge and technical skills you need to tackle the challenges of this critically important industry. You’ll achieve industry recognised qualifications, develop your cyber skills and knowledge in all things cyber security.

Network Engineer Apprenticeship Standard Level 4
The Network Engineer Level 4 apprenticeship combines classroom training with online activities, one-on-one support and experience at work to develop a high level of skill in IT networking technologies. You’ll achieve recognised industry qualifications, navigate and administrate servers, administer and secure large networks, work on high end and complex setups and identify and resolve security threats and vulnerabilities.

Software Developer Higher Apprenticeship Level 4
This Apprenticeship is designed for those working in a software developer role building and testing high-quality code. A developer will typically be working as part of a larger team, in which they will have responsibility for some of the straightforward elements of the overall project. The developer will need to be able to interpret design documentation and specifications. As part of this Apprenticeship Standard you will also achieve a Level 4 HNC in Computing and/or a Level 5 HND in Computing.

Unified Communications Trouble Shooter Higher Apprenticeship Level 4
This Apprenticeship is suitable for those who provide customers (internal or external) with a specialist technical service to set them up on unified communications systems and to resolve problems when they arise. This service can be delivered face-to-face, over the phone or online. A Unified Communications Trouble Shooter is required to install equipment and software and handle incidents and requests for help, including providing fault diagnostic across a broad range of unified communications technologies in accordance with business service level agreements. As part of this Apprenticeship Standard you will also achieve a Level 4 HNC in Computing and/or a Level 5 HND in Computing.

HNC & HND Overview

For HNC:
Programming; networking; professional practice; database design & development; security; managing a successful computing project; systems development life cycle; web development.

For HND:
You will choose a specialist pathway to follow; network engineering; applications development; security; computing (general).

Degree Overview

Our degree programme has been developed with industry leaders to build students’ knowledge and skills in a range of subjects; which may include networking, programming, hardware, web development, security and user interface and user experience design. Students then progress on to the second and third year specialising in either Software Development, or Networking and Cyber Security. Students will complete a group research project in the second year and a dissertation in the final year.

Your full-time Further Education course will consist of a study programme. This means that alongside your industry-recognised qualification, you’ll also study English and maths and improve your personal and employability skills. In short, your study programme will provide you with:

Our Higher Education programmes can be studied either full-time for two days per week or part-time one day per week. Computer Science Level 3

CATALIN DINICU

I chose to come to College to study Computer Science because there was no A-Level available that goes to the same level as this course. This course is not just theory based, we have the hardware to cover the practical aspects and it’s great to have found a course to match my interests and aspirations.

The tutors explain things really well. For example, last year on Level 2 we looked at programming in the visual studio, which was something completely new to me as I had not learnt any programming in school. You also cover a lot of the hardware on the Level 2 course, taking machines apart and putting them back together.
